The causes of acne vary in different people.
If one has acne, it could be do to an over
production of sebum in your oil glands. The
extra sebum will block your follicles thus
causing pimples.
Hormones are another cause of acne, it can
even be considered a hormonal disease. Hormones
are what is responsible for the maturation
of the oil glands in our skin. This is why
children before puberty don't experience
acne. Acne may be precipitated by androgen,
male hormones found in both men and women.
The excess oil caused by these hormones may
be instrumental in clogging hair follicles
where the bacteria grows and acne develops.
Women are likely to be affected more do to
menstrual cycles, pregnancy, and even menopause.
Stress can also be a culprit in the cause
of acne. When one experiences stress, the
adrenal gland can go into overdrive and cause
an inflammatory response.
Heredity is another reason one may find
themselves with acne. A large majority of
people that are suffering with acne will
find that one or both parents have also suffered
with it. The more widespread the problem
is within a family, the more prone one is
to developing acne.
Many men and women have noted that certain
medications including androgens, lithium,
and barbiturates, seem to worsen or aggravate
acne. Women in particular have found that
greasy make up can cause an acne breakout.
If one is working out, the perspiration
trapped in clothing, especially tight clothing
can irritate the skin and encourage a breakout.
Picking and squeezing acne pimples is not
advisable and can cause it to get worse.
